Back in 1956, Elvis Presley appeared on the Steve Allen Show to sing “Hound Dog.” To make Elvis seem more family friendly because of his “sexual hip gyrations and leg dips” that were so shocking at the time, the show requested he sing to an actual hound. Though resentful towards Allen, Elvis cupped the dog’s face and crooned the lyrics to its dopey, sad face.
